Community Based Family Shelter
FamilyAid Boston, in partnership with the Commonwealth of Massachusetts, provides ninety units of apartment-based family shelter in neighborhoods throughout Boston.
Our Community Based Family Shelter program consists of:
- Scattered site apartments in which families live independently while receiving case management at FamilyAid Boston’s offices
- Co-shelter buildings in which families share apartments and receive services on site.
The program allows families in shelter to live in neighborhoods and access jobs and schools while building the independence, skills, and resources they will need to sustain permanent housing.
Participating families meet with a skilled team including social workers, case managers, housing specialists, and employment specialists. This team conducts ongoing assessment of each family to determine the issues that led to their becoming homeless and address the barriers they face in obtaining permanent housing.
In an effort to help families maintain and build on these positive changes, the Community Family Shelter program also provides stabilization services to families after they exit shelter.
