Remote Winter Walk Snowballs Aid to Homeless Children and Parents
Winter Walk, Boston’s signature annual event that raises awareness and funds for those who are confronting homeless, recently announced that FamilyAid Boston is one of 10 organizations who will receive proceeds from event to further prevention, support, and care for those who are homeless.
Traditionally held downtown, 2021 Winter Walk patrons are invited take the 2-mile walk outside between Friday, January 29th and Sunday, February 7th independently, as a family, or a part of a small team, and then gather online on Sunday, February 7th at 3 pm for a special presentation with stories shared from some of Greater Boston’s homeless community including FamilyAid Boston clients.
In the past, FAB’s Winter Walk team met on Copley Square in matching t-shirts, representing our organization and the families we serve. Though we will not be walking together this time, we can still grow our team, raise awareness, and double our funds. Winter Walk will match the amount we fundraise, so we encourage you to register to join our team and aid our efforts in ending family homelessness.
Many returning participants of the walk include Family Aid staff, supporters, and board members. “The Winter Walk is a chance to join with not only FamilyAid Boston staff, Board and friends but also the many others working on or experiencing homelessness. The past two years have been a cold but lively gathering with food, music, and a few talks as well as a good 2-mile walk well managed by volunteers. This year it is virtual, and I will be selecting my route and encouraging others to sign up and do the same” says Charlie Deknatel, FamilyAid Boston Board Member and three-time WinterWalk participant.
The Winter Walk brings together compassionate people from all walks of life during the coldest month of the year. Our goal is to create an immersive experience that cultivates empathy, respect, and advocacy surrounding homelessness. FAB walks to represent the 2,600 children and parents in our care, and our mission to house those in need while empowering parents to build brighter futures for their children.
We encourage you to join our Winter Walk team, here. Although we cannot gather in person this year, Boston’s most vulnerable families need your support during a cold and challenging winter.
