Did you know that housing is only a part of the solution to family homelessness? The key to addressing Boston’s growing humanitarian crisis is to meet the moment when families find themselves at life’s crossroads and help them on the path to survival and ultimately, success. For more than 100 years, FamilyAid has been there for children and their parents at their most critical moments, providing the vital assistance that impacts generations.
FamilyAid was established over a century ago in response to a decline in the U.S. economy, massive migration to Boston by families fleeing vulnerability elsewhere, and the effects and aftereffects of a devastating worldwide pandemic. If that sounds familiar, it’s for good reason. Despite steady technological progress that would have seemed unthinkable 100 years ago and advances in science that save millions of lives each year, the same three issues face Boston today.
Cherished childhood memories, particularly those of the holiday season, often involve newness. New toys. New clothes. A festive new tree in the corner of the living room. And ringing in the New Year. For three young Boston sisters – Ellie, 12; Sally, 8; and Allie, 7 – future reminiscences of 2022 will indeed center around newness.
