Long-distance runner and midwife Karla Holt trained hard to run the Boston Marathon on April 18, but her goal was more than just completing 26.2 miles. Karla raised funds to support FamilyAid’s work to empower children and parents facing homelessness to secure and sustain housing and build a solid foundation for the future.

As a Tampa Bay resident, Kara also wanted her local community to benefit from her Marathon effort, so she paired up with Metropolitan Ministries, a service organization that supports at-risk youth and homeless families.  For every $250 raised for FamilyAid, Karla is donating an hour of volunteer service in Tampa.

“As a midwife, I value providing children and families with proper care to set them up for success.  FamilyAid meets children and parents’ individual needs while also caring for the whole family.  I support their mission and am grateful to run in support of the thousand families in their care,” says Karla.

Karla is among nine FamilyAid team members who ran this year’s Marathon: Kip Sandford, Bryan Su, Jordan Wood, Jasmin Tabares, Kathryn Jerwann, Karla Holt, Melissa Adubato, Kelly Brandt, and Marita Pearce.

Through the John Hancock Marathon Non-Profit Program, FamilyAid’s Marathon team raised more than $100,000 to create lasting solutions to the family homelessness crisis.  We are grateful to our Marathoners for their dedication and commitment.
