Running with Heart: Honoring Jim Partridge’s Legacy of Compassion
At the heart of every great cause lies a story of resilience, passion and unwavering dedication. Jim Partridge, a beloved friend and longtime supporter of FamilyAid, embodied these qualities throughout his entire life. Jim’s journey with FamilyAid began when he was persuaded by FamilyAid Board Member Kip Sanford to run the 2013 Boston Marathon on the agency’s behalf. Little did he know that this would mark the beginning of a profound bond with a cause close to his heart. Despite facing the chaos of the tragic events during the 2013 Marathon, Jim remained undeterred in his commitment to supporting homeless children and parents through FamilyAid.
Life had more challenges in store for Jim when he was diagnosed with cancer in 2016. Yet, in the face of adversity, Jim’s spirit remained unbroken. Unable to run himself, he found a way to continue his support by rallying his friends and community to run on his behalf in the 2019 and 2020 Marathons while he tirelessly handled the fundraising efforts.
Jim’s legacy lives on through the footsteps of those who continue to run in his honor, like Deb Thomas, who is carrying Jim’s memory forward by running in the 2024 Boston Marathon. Jim’s family – consisting of his wife, Jennie, sons Kellen, Liam, and Declan, and daughter, Riley – continues to support the children and parents in our care in honor of his legacy. Recently, the boys designated FamilyAid as the beneficiary of their Newton Youth Hockey League’s charity game. Jim’s life exemplifies the power of friendship, dedication and the impact one person can have in making a difference in the lives of others. Though he may no longer be with us, his spirit continues to shine bright, lighting the way for a brighter future for all children and parents.
