Boston, MA – June 2, 2022 — FamilyAid, a Boston-based agency providing comprehensive services for homeless children and parents living in poverty, announced that it is one of 140 local nonprofits to receive a grant of $100,000 through Cummings Foundation’s $25 Million Grant Program. The human services organization was chosen from a total of 580 applicants during a competitive review process.

FamilyAid serves 4,000 homeless children and parents with housing support and individual care. The organization has seen a rise in children’s mental health needs that parallels the well-documented national behavioral health crisis.  The $100,000 Cummings Foundation grant over two years will help FamilyAid connect as many as 800 children facing homelessness to the critical mental health services they need.

The grant will also allow the agency to hire a Child Behavioral Health Navigator to foster new community partnerships, source and share resources with FamilyAid case managers, and break down the barriers that families in crisis face trying to access behavioral healthcare.

“We are grateful to the Cummings Foundation for once again being an early investor in FamilyAid’s two-generation approach to ending family homelessness.” said FamilyAid President Larry Seamans. “We know that addressing mental health challenges in children today will improve their lives in the future. Together with the Cummings Foundation, we are giving children facing homelessness the opportunity to thrive.”

FamilyAid has been improving the lives of the working poor since 1916. As Boston’s largest provider of solutions to family homelessness, the agency empowers parents and caregivers to secure and sustain housing and build strong foundations for their children’s futures.
