Amid current family homelessness crisis, 1,600 children and parents received their first Thanksgiving meal

FamilyAid volunteers and staff delivered fully prepared Thanksgiving meals to homeless children and parents for the fourth consecutive year, with support graciously provided by Gerstner Philanthropies.

This heartwarming event was begun amid the COVID-19 pandemic by former FamilyAid Director of Facilities Marty Luttrell, who died tragically in 2021. Each year, the day unites the community and invites families to get involved in the tradition. For some, it’s their first Thanksgiving meal, while for others, it’s a heartwarming return to normalcy.

The number of meals delivered to families has increased more than 150% since the event’s inception in 2020, with 1,630 meals delivered this year. It’s no small feat, but with the help of 100 volunteers–including FamilyAid donors, board members and staff–the holiday meals were distributed to families in 34 cities and towns across Boston and Eastern Massachusetts.
