FamilyAid Appoints Luciano Ramos as Next President & CEO

The board of directors of FamilyAid, Greater Boston’s leader in 2-generational solutions for families struggling with poverty and housing instability, has named Luciano Ramos as the organization’s new President & CEO. Ramos will officially join FamilyAid on August 10, replacing Larry Seamans, who is retiring after a 42-year career.

Ramos brings more than 25 years of experience to FamilyAid, including executive and management positions building cross-sector partnerships spanning health care, housing, workforce development and public systems across 36 states. He has most recently served as assistant dean at Boston University’s School of Public Health and executive director of the Center for Economic and Social Justice at Roxbury Community College.

Earlier in his career, as vice president of programs & integration at United Way of South Hampton Roads, Ramos helped build a two-generational, trauma-informed economic mobility model. In addition to his work leading organizations, Ramos has served on the Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching’s national community engagement advisory committee.

Having experienced housing and food insecurity firsthand as a child, Ramos has built his career around strengthening the systems of community support that helped his own family find stability. He also serves on the board of The Newton Food Pantry, a key FamilyAid partner. Ramos holds a bachelor’s degree in history & political science from Old Dominion University and a master’s degree in urban planning from Florida State University.

“We are thrilled that Luciano is joining us at this pivotal moment in history,” said FamilyAid Board Chair Laura Scott. “He is the ideal person to lead the organization into the future, and we are confident that he will deepen the agency’s resources to navigate families through the complex challenges of poverty and homelessness in the face of dwindling social safety nets.”

“I am honored to join FamilyAid and to support the dedicated staff and partners who work every day to strengthen families facing housing insecurity,” said Ramos. “FamilyAid’s mission aligns deeply with the values shaped by my career and lived experience, and I look forward to working alongside our team and community to expand our impact and help families move from stability to lasting self‑sufficiency.”

Ramos is joining the agency as it celebrates its 110th year with a recently announced $6 million endowment to support children’s psychosocial development through positive life experiences and groundbreaking longitudinal research by Boston College proving the effectiveness of its prevention programming with the Boston Public Schools. Ramos will lead a pilot of that program in other school districts on behalf of the Commonwealth, with research support from the Harvard Kennedy School of Government.
