Running for the Kids
For Tara Lane, running has always been about more than miles.
A lifelong runner, Tara knows what it means to be knocked down by life—and what it takes to get back up. After years of personal hardship, including watching a family member struggle with homelessness and lose their battle with addiction, she found her way back to a healthy lifestyle through movement, resilience and a fierce commitment to helping others do the same. That journey led her to become a certified personal trainer, dedicated to guiding people through depression and trauma toward better health.
It also led her to FamilyAid.
When Tara learned about FamilyAid’s work lifting families out of poverty and homelessness, it felt personal. She knows how quickly circumstances can spiral, and how transformative it is to have someone—or an entire community—show up for you. For Tara, running the Boston Marathon is a way to show up for the children and parents who need it most.
She’ll also be running in memory of her brother Jeff, gone ten years this month—proof that the people we love continue to propel us forward long after they’re gone.
Tara believes that with the right support, families can find stability and build toward something brighter. That conviction sits at the heart of everything FamilyAid does.
Tara is one of FamilyAid’s Boston Marathon runners, all united in support of the 5,200 children and parents in FamilyAid’s care on their journey to a better future. Learn more about the full team and donate at bit.ly/FA-RunningStart.
